Currents

"Currents" is a hanging sculpture of over 8,000 acrylic rods that brings to life the hidden connections constantly happening around us. This immersive installation defines LinkedIn’s co-working space by showcasing its brand ethos and celebrating locality.

Fully adaptive and reactive in real time, it uses data from various sources—including buoys from the SF Bay, BART transportation data, local tidal conditions, wind speeds, and sunrise/sunset times—to reflect the pulse of the Bay Area. As a result, the lighting design is always changing, ensuring the installation never looks the same twice.

  • Currents lighting is linked to Buoys and nautical transit systems of the Bay Area. Lighting design reflects these systems real time.

  • Each of the 8,000 acrylic rods is synced with DMX controllable LED’s creating an ever-changing lighting experience.

  • As you look out of the 28th floor of LinkedIn you see the bay. This is reflected within the design of the artwork, bringing the outside in.

Lighting Design & Programming VSUS

Behind The Process

Currents lighting design reflects the San Francisco Bay, pulling real-time data from the National Weather Service. Working with VSUS we created several lighting designs that move through the piece based on tides, buoy data, and weather patterns.
