The Valley

It is by learning from our past that we can confidently look to the future. It is this duality that leads us to two distinct yet connected works of art. Community, a multi-media wall, showcases the history of technology from The Valley. A human gesture celebrating the archives. Each element of this mural showcases the spirit of Silicon Valley, conveying historical partnerships and disruptive innovation. The narrative is told through the selection of materials, old advertisements, and illustrations that are representative of human touch and craft.

  • Silicon Valley’s footprint has been one of the most influential in human history. From NASA’s first rocket to the invention of the microchip, this fertile ground is celebrating human willpower and achievement.

  • The mural was created to fit the architecture of the space. Our goal was to create an experience that is equally as interesting from 100 yards or 100 cm away. Layers of mixed media were the answer.

  • Working with our tech clients archivist we dug up articles, headlines, magazine covers, and important defining moments of the compani’s history.

The mural is set off the wall on 4 unique stains of wood that make up an abstract map of the region. Next is a layer of custom topography line-work that was designed to feature major historical centers of innovation. After working with the brand’s archivist unique designs were created from the content in order to tell the graphic story through a rip-n-stick collage.

Installation took place over a two-week period. The abstract map was designed using major highways and topography and set off the wall by several types of wood panels. Major sections of the map were then filled in with custom augmented or unique designs which were layered up to give the piece a street-art feeling. Pulling the piece together we hand-painted or stenciled major elements of the mural to further give it a single cohesive feeling. All in all the piece told a story of the region dating back to “pre” silicon valley.
